Catherine Si identified last month’s image “by memory alone … Am I a bonafide townie yet?” she asks. “Should I take a picture of it with my Argus C3 35mm?” quips Orest Mykolenko.
They and twenty-four other entrants correctly guessed “the Argus Museum,” or, as Joe Cialdella specifies, “the new camera-look-a-like sign in front of the Argus Museum … on the corner of William and Third.” Jerri Jenista writes that her granddaughter “thinks it is a real camera,” as they walk by on their way to school.
“Argus started out in 1931 as the International Radio Corp. [and] started making cameras” in 1935, says David Karl. “During WWII,” writes Judy Chrisman, “they made bomb sights and other opticals.” “My dad’s old camera, which I think he bought when he was stationed in Japan … was an Argus,” says David Frye, “stamped ‘made in Ann Arbor.'”
