Om of Medicine was an influential local player as legal cannabis took root in Ann Arbor. Starting in 2010 as a nonprofit “provisioning center” in a third-floor space above Vinology on S. Main, it later moved across the street into a lounge-like ground-floor storefront where it hosted a range of community events and served registered medical cannabis patients.

As adult-use (recreational) sales geared up in 2019, it was acquired by a multistate operator using the Mission Dispensaries retail store brand. Though it retained Om owner James Klotz as manager and added the tagline “Forever Home to Om,” reports of labor strife followed, as did a state rules violation for selling items on administrative hold.

In December, Mission Ann Arbor closed its doors, and its financially struggling corporate parent, 4Front Ventures, sold the store to a partnership between Misty Mountain Acquisitions and Chicago-based PharmaCann.

Misty Mountain board member Patrick Barry tells the Observer that they’re going through the local and state licensing steps to relaunch within a few months as one of four upcoming Misty Mountain Cannabis dispensaries in Michigan. According to his LinkedIn page, Klotz will be back as store manager.

“We all love Ann Arbor, and we think it’s a great, great community, and we love the location,” Barry says. “We liked the concepts that they had going there. They had a kind of an earthy organic feel, they have the plant wall and things like that, but when I visited, there [were] very few cabinets and there wasn’t a very extensive product line.

“Consumers should expect a refreshed, refurbished location with more products more prominently displayed.”
