“The Wizard of Oz”: Professional Youth Theatre of Michigan

March. 14–16 & 21–23. Megan Wright-Jones directs two alternating casts of local youth actors in grades 2–12 in performances of the 1987 Royal Shakespeare Company musical about an orphaned teenager from Kansas who finds herself on a wild hero’s journey in the strange land of Oz. Based on the 1900 L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it features Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg’s songs from the 1939 film, with a book by John Kane. 7 p.m. (Mar. 14 & 15), 2 p.m. (Mar. 15, 16, & 22), 8 p.m. (Mar. 21 & 22), & noon (Mar. 23).
