Racing Mount Pleasant: Music Matters

This chamber folk-rock septet whose instrumentation includes violin and horns was formed in 2019 as Kingfisher by U-M students. Known for its intimate multi-media live shows, the band “dwells in emotional quietude without sacrificing sonic grandeur,” according to New Yorker reviewer Hanif Abdurraqib. Their musical style has been compared to bands like Bon Iver, Lord Huron, and Black Country. Tonight is a hometown coda to their North American tour promoting their eponymous new album. Openers: 2 local bands, the young alternative rock band Out of Focus and the versatile horn-fired R&B-tinged rock band Grenadine. 7 p.m., Power Center. Tickets $15–$25 in advance at mutotix.umich.edu/6153 & (if available) at the door. umichmusicmatters.com.
