“Oklahoma!”: The Encore Musical Theatre Company
Every Wed.–Sun., June 6–30. Daniel Cooney directs this local professional company in Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein’s first musical together, a story blending comedy and tragedy that’s set in the Oklahoma territory in the early 1900s. A huge critical and box office success when it debuted 1943, the show follows the romantic relationships and rivalries between cowboys and farmers, exploring themes of love, loneliness, and the pursuit of the American dream. The catchy and iconic score includes such songs as “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “I Cain’t Say No,” and “People Will Say We’re in Love.” 7:30 p.m. (opening night Thurs., Fri., & Sat.), 2 p.m. (Sat. & Sun.), & 3 p.m. (Wed. & Thurs.).
