Nourish & Gather: A Japanese Hot Pot Experience: Ann Arbor Public Schools Rec & Ed

When the weather turns chilly, East Asian families gather around the table for hot pot—a bubbling communal meal where everyone cooks, eats, and laughs together. In this class, you’ll learn to recreate that cozy tradition right at home using a simple electric skillet!

Chef and community food educator Kori Kanayama, a Japanese native and Grass Lake–based farm chef, will guide you through the essentials: setting up your hot pot, choosing flavorful ingredients, and finding them locally in Ann Arbor. Kori will also share the culture and variations of this beloved winter meal.

February 4th is Sukiyaki Night: Thinly sliced beef simmered in a sweet soy broth with vegetables and yam noodles—traditionally dipped in silky raw egg. Rich, satisfying, and oh-so-classic.
