“Listening to ‘The Vegetarian’”: Lisa Sung Ensemble (Kerrytown Concert House)
Grand Rapids–based jazz pianist Lisa Sung and her ensemble present Sung’s original song cycle inspired by The Vegetarian, a 2007 novel by the winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in literature, South Korean writer Han Kang. The cycle explores themes from the book: silence, resistance, and transformation through sound, drawing on contemporary jazz and improvisation. With saxophonists Marcus Elliot Miller and Andrew Bishop, bassist Brynn Hilliker, drummer Max Welterlen, readers Eva Rosenwald and Tae Hoon Yoo (Big Fire), and lecturer Youngju Ryu, a U-M professor of Korean literature. 4 p.m., 415 N.
