“Chamber Winds Mix Tape”: U-M Symphony Band Chamber Winds
A variety of music student wind ensembles drawn from the U-M Symphony Band perform Haydn’s buoyant Octet in F Major and early 17th-century Italian composer Giovanni Gabrieli’s harmonically rich Sonata Octavi Toni, along with chamber works by contemporary American composers, including Robert Spittal’s baroque-inspired Consort, U-M composition grad Ethan Soledad’s Poems from Angel Island, and Rob Smith’s Dance Mix, an eclectic and upbeat piece that segues quickly through a variety of styles from calypso to Broadway and big band jazz. 8 p.m., U-M Moore Bldg., McIntosh Theatre, 1100 Baits, North Campus. Free. (734) 764–0583.
