A2 Community Bookfest (formerly Kerrytown BookFest)
This bustling, lively festival—the largest 1-day book festival in Michigan—celebrates books and bookmaking with a variety of demos, talks, signings, displays, and sale tables by local bookstores, booksellers, and publishers. Schedule: Local husband-and-wife writer-illustrator duo Philip & Erin Stead (10:30 a.m.), authors of the Caldecott Medal-winning book A Sick Day for Amos McGee, discuss their work. A chance to sew and fold a pamphlet (11:30 a.m.), small enough to fit in a pocket. A book release reception (1:15 p.m.) for writing by local writers published by the AADL Fifth Avenue Press. A chance for kids grades K–5 to make customized refrigerator magnets (1:15 p.m.). Local writer and publishing expert Brandi Larsen (1:15 p.m.) discusses how to give and receive meaningful feedback.
