Crepe Nation has permanently closed its fast-casual eatery on Jackson Rd. in Scio Twp., according to Steve Angerman, landlord for the multi-tenant building anchored by Fleet Feet. It had moved there last May from a smaller spot on Golfside Rd. in Ypsilanti Twp. A location near Lansing also closed early in 2023. Owner Complete Chijioke did not respond to the Observer’s inquiries, but Angerman confirms that he’s seeking a new tenant for the 1,300-square-foot unit.

After one year in the Plymouth Road Mall, La Piazza Pizza and Subs has closed. Owner Fred Ansari says he’s learned that takeout pizza is really a game for bigger players, so he’s sold to Cottage Inn and is scouting to buy an existing restaurant where he can offer more of a sit-down experience.

Surf City Squeeze at Briarwood Mall closed in late January. The franchise, known for its smoothies, iced chillers, and lemonades, had outlasted much larger neighbors—when it opened in the mall’s southern wing in 1995, the anchor tenant there was Jacobson’s. (That Michigan chain closed in 2002, making way for Iowa-based Von Maur.)

In the same wing at Briarwood, Scrubs Boutique and More has vacated its store geared toward health care workers. It had just opened in June 2023. Its remaining Michigan location is at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills.
In its place, a sign announces that another Texas-based chain, Earthbound Trading Co., is coming soon. The bohemian lifestyle retailer’s offerings include apparel, accessories, crystals, and aroma-related products appealing to hippies at heart.
