Nearly every month, we learn something from the entries to our little contest. Take Jack Bruienne’s this month, for example:
“The Fake Ad is called UPSee on page 65. This ad stood out to me because I am into technology. UPC codes do not have any sort of ability to be tracked–they work by using a laser to differentiate black from white, giving a binary number to the computer to use. To be able to track something, you would need it to be battery powered, but UPC codes are just ink on paper … Finally, last month’s winner Mike Thomsen’s last name is located in the fourth line of the second paragraph, inside ‘fathom sent.'”
Bruienne was one of 165 Fake Adders who correctly identified the ad. Dave Moore commented, “Once again, you’re ahead of the geniuses of Silicon Valley. The UPSee app is just waiting to happen. Let’s watch as it leaps from page 65 onto our telephones.”
Our winner was Jeff Hoover. He, too, will be taking his prize to the Common Grill.
To enter this month’s contest, find the fake ad in the August issue and follow the instructions in the box at the bottom of the Back Page. The fake ad always contains the name of last month’s winner in some form.
