Last August, we reported that former U-M cancer researcher Swaroop Bhojani had sold Hut-K Chaats, his health-focused Indian street-food restaurant. Now Bhojani is back at Packard and Platt as manager of Hut-Kay Fusion.

Bhojani explains that when the original sale fell through, he ended up selling the business to an anonymous friend–who asked him to return as manager. He says the name change more accurately describes what they do: “Even before,” he says, “we had all different kinds of ‘fusion’ foods … I thought fusion was an apt name for it.”

Most of the nonartificial, no-sugar-added menu remains the same, but he’s adding “meal boxes” containing a soup, salad, and entree. He’s also expanding on the available soup and salad options. “Most kids like the salad!” he says with astonishment.

Many patrons “have come and given me hugs and said ‘thank you for coming back’ and ‘we missed you!'” he says, smiling. “It was very, very touching.”
