Yes, the Fake Ad contest continues. After 9/11, we continued to create our unimportant little game, so there’s no reason to stop now. Today feels like that time.

We received 146 correct entries identifying the Fake Ad for Students for a Demeatbased Society on pg. 83 of the March Observer. The last name of the previous month’s winner, Farmer, was the answer to the question the ad asked, “Who should be friends with the cowman?”

“Hilarious!!!” wrote Sylvia Ruiz. “Rodgers and Hammerstein would have had a cow if they had seen this ad for Students for A Demeatbased Society. Who should be friends with the cowman? The FARMER. ‘One man likes to push a plough, the other likes to chase a cow, but that’s no reason they cain’t be friends,’ at least in Oklahoma. Thanks for the laughs.”

And Ken Westerman wrote, “This ad, in Ann Arbor, with our plethora of musical lovers and opportunities to indulge that love, should generate a new high in correct answers. The name of last month’s winner, Farmer, is, obviously, the answer to ‘Who Should Be Friends with the COWMAN?’ Though I cannot immediately remember when the last local performance of Oklahoma! was. I do remember its title song was my favorite for decades, starting when Janice Clark, Professor Emeritus of Music Education, then the elementary vocal music teacher at Burns Park, taught it year after year in the ’50’s to the entire student body.”

Art Langeneckert (Really? Like writing this month’s ad wasn’t already challenging enough?) was chosen as our winner. He’s taking his gift certificate to Afternoon Delight.

To enter this month’s contest, find the fake ad and follow the instructions in the box at the bottom of April’s Back Page. The fake ad always contains the name of last month’s winner in some form.
