Ski Mt. Whitmore

We received 153 entries correctly identifying the Fake Ad for Mt. Whitmore on page 57 of the November Observer.

“Please enter me in the Fake Ad contest,” writes David Joseph. “It’s the Mt. Whitmore ski resort. Not sure which is more laughable: ‘dozens of feet of vertical’ or ‘southeast Michigan’s version of Lake Tahoe.’ I drive from Ann Arbor to Brighton every day for work: ‘dozens of feet of vertical’ is generous.”

“I haven’t searched for ages but I treated myself to some time with the November issue,” writes Adrienne Licata. “Our cottage is on Ore Lake in Hamburg Township, not far from Whitmore Lake and Mt. Brighton, so this was fun … Local love and all but I’ve spent enough time in Tahoe to know we aren’t giving them much competition on this one.” Licata ends her note with, “I’m Adrienne Licata, grateful reader since 1997.”

Now, the part where we quote people praising us:

“I love how creative these fake ads are!”

“Thank you as always for the monthly challenge!”

“I love the Fake Ad contest almost as much as the Ann Arbor Observer!”

“Many thanks for sustaining this great series!”

“Thanks for giving me a few minutes of entertainment each month.” (Okay, that one sounds like it’s from Mrs. Fake Ad Czar.)

Our winners are the Lin-Turnbull family. They’re taking their gift certificate to Zingerman’s.

To enter this month’s contest, find the Fake Ad and let us know at [email protected]. Hint: The ad always contains the last name of the previous month’s winner in some form.
