The fast-casual concept Texacano Tex-Mex BBQ opened in May in an underutilized portion of brewpub Blue Tractor. It shares its entrance with the affiliated Mash bar downstairs and its kitchen with Blue Tractor.
“We basically took the delicious smoked meat that we already make, and we’ve packaged them in Tex-Mex style cuisine, like tacos, quesadillas, rice bowls and stuff like that,” says Dave Horchem, general manager for the trio of establishments, operated by Mission Restaurant Group.
“The aim is to have a nice, casual place where people can come in and have a nice meal without any pretension,” he adds. “You can have a great meal for under $20 and walk out of there with leftovers.”
The Blue Tractor bar offerings are available, as are sixteen- or thirty-six-ounce frozen margaritas. Trivia is hosted by Geeks Who Drink on buy-one-get-one Taco Tuesdays. Pulled pork or chicken tacos are $2 each during happy hours 3 to 6 p.m. daily and after 9 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
“We wanted to target some of the kids that line up for Mash on Friday and Saturday nights,” Horchem explains. “So we do see a handful of those kids coming in and grabbing tacos before they go downstairs and party.”
