“Third Thursdays at the Library”: U-M Library

Monthly open house featuring rotating highlights from the library’s Special Collections Research Center, maps from the Clark Library, and items from other collections. Curators on hand to answer questions.

6th fl.: “Book Cloth: From Textile Bindings to Fashionable Fabric Samples.” Display of textiles, from those covering Ottoman Turkish manuscripts, to fabric samples in early 20th-century fashion magazines, and more.

4th fl.: “Sword and Scroll: Three Centuries of Chinese Martial Arts Fiction.” Original editions, translations, and other materials related to martial arts in Chinese literature.

2nd fl.: “Map Highlights and New Acquisitions.” Display of the Clark Library’s recent acquisitions, including a 17th-century Dutch atlas, a Manga map of the world, and maps used to instruct 19th-century schoolgirls.

1st fl.: “Spilling the Beans and Brewing Excitement: Coffee and Tea Around the World.” Materials from various countries related to the cultivation and consumption of coffee and tea.
