“Seong-Jin Cho: Ravel”: University Musical Society

Star pianist Seong-Jin Cho, known for his poetic, assertive style, celebrates Ravel’s 150th birthday by performing his complete solo piano works in a single evening, a monumental undertaking. Winner of the 2015 Chopin Piano Competition at the age of 21, Berlin-based (but Seoul-born and raised) Cho is “already one of the most admired pianists of his generation,” according to Bachtrack, and has been called “perhaps the finest Ravel interpreter of our time” by Scherzo magazine. The concert tour is in support of the release of his album of the same compositions. Preceded at 5 p.m. by a prelude dinner ($75) on the 4th floor of the Rackham Building, with remarks by guest experts TBA. 7:30 p.m., Hill Auditorium. Tickets $17–$108 (students, $15-$20) in advance at ums.org, by phone, and (if available) at the door. (734) 764–2538.
