Through stories, insights, and practical examples guided by the lens of Six Pathways to a Sustainable Future this talk will illustrate how communities are crafting regenerative and justice-centered futures. Attendees will be encouraged to see themselves as active architects of change.
Speaker biography:
Jim Embry is a celebrated community activist, ecological steward, and cultural historian whose work spans more than six decades at the intersection of social & food justice, environmental sustainability, and cultural transformation. As an agrarian, intellectual activist based in Kentucky and the proud progeny of formerly enslaved Africans out of Nigeria, Embry is widely recognized for championing community-based agriculture, local and just food systems, and holistic approaches to ecological well-being that honor African American and Indigenous agrarian traditions. Embry is the founder of and visionary leader in many impactful organizations that include: Sustainable Communities Network, Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden, James and Grace Lee Boggs Center to Nurture Community Leadership, Cumberland Seed Commons, Kentucky and national Black Farmers organizations, Good Foods Co-op and System Transformation Partnership —all aimed at strengthening local resilience, environmental awareness, democratic participation, and social transformation that lead to species maturation.
