Brandee Younger Trio Featuring Michelle Coltrane: U-M Center for World Performance Studies
Vocalist Coltrane and harpist Younger lead a jazz ensemble in a performance of work by Coltrane’s mother, Alice, the Detroit-born jazz harpist vocalist and wife of jazz great John Coltrane best known as the first musician to play the harp on jazz recordings. Like her husband, Coltrane often drew inspiration from Eastern culture, with her brand of spiritual jazz frequently incorporating the drones and harmonies of classical Indian music. 7–8:30 p.m., Residential College Keene Theater, 701 East University.
