29th Annual Edgefest: Kerrytown Concert House
See 8 Wednesday. Tonight: Ben Miller’s Eleventh Hour (7 p.m.), an ensemble formed in 2023 that’s led by veteran local avant-garde composer, alto saxophonist, & guitarist Miller. It’s music, which Miller describes as “a cross between postbop and Angelo Badalamenti,” uses interval sequences and tone rows, in addition to more conventional timing. With saxophonist Marlena Boegdigheimer, bassist Joel Peterson, and drummer Jonathan Taylor. Solo violinist Jason Kao Hwang (8 p.m.) draws from Soliloquies, his 2024 album of pizzicato violin improvisations. Pianist Myra Melford (9 p.m.) leads her trio in music from Splash, its 2025 album inspired by the abstract paintings of Cy Twombly. With bassist Michael Formanek and drummer Ches Smith, who also leads his own ensemble (10 p.m.) in music from his guitar-focused album Clone Row. With guitarists Mary Halvorson & Liberty Ellman, and bassist Nick Dunston. 7, 8, 9, & 10 p.m.
