Mike and Jennifer Spadafore had twins last fall. This fall they opened a twin business, Main Street Bagels, right next to their Twisters Ice Cream in Chelsea.

The bagel shop was carved out of some spare space at one side of the ice cream shop. It’s painted a milk-chocolate brown and has big picture windows.

Twisters closes during the winter, but the bagel shop is open year round. Bagels are brought in fresh each morning from Barry Bagels in Ann Arbor. The Spadafores sell a few other pastries made by Dexter Bakery and make coffee on site, selling it for 89¢ a cup. They also have a limited lunch menu of bagel sandwiches with chicken salad, ham, turkey, or other fillings, plus onion sticks and soup. A bagel with cream cheese costs $1.80.

The twins, Phoebe and Aiden, have been to the shop a few times already. “They’re liking bagels, that’s for sure,” says Mike. Not that they don’t like ice cream—but “with teething, they prefer the bagels.”
