Last June, we wrote a My Town article about a white mallard duck named Louie. Louie hatched at the pond outside Anna’s House restaurant on Eisenhower Pkwy. He quickly became a favorite of staff members and Anna’s House regulars.

When he grew up, Louie partnered with Mama Dux—a brown mallard—and together they raised twelve ducklings: nine were brown, and three were yellow, soon to turn white. Louie was an attentive father.

In late November, Louie and other duck residents at the pond headed south to enjoy warmer winter weather, probably in Ohio or even further south. However, they did stay around long enough to watch the Oregon Ducks defeat the Michigan Wolverines at the Big House on November 2!

After the departure, everyone wondered if Louie would return when weather warmed up in Ann Arbor.

Well, it has happened! Louie came back home in March. We saw him again during a recent breakfast visit to Anna’s House. He’s currently paddling around the pond, happily basking in warm sunlight and pleasant welcoming breezes. We’ve talked with people coming into Anna’s looking for a glimpse of Louie and his friends. Word is that he’s found a possible new partner—thus guaranteeing a few white ducklings in coming weeks.
