Retreating from the “rat race” of the corporate world, Breana Jackson is realizing her dream to curate a particular kind of boutique.

“You only get one life,” says the Dexter resident and mother of three. “I didn’t want to spend it on everybody else’s time. I wanted to have a more positive purpose.”

Five years in the making, Grace Proper opened in August in a purple building Jackson had her eye on from the beginning. Her chance finally arrived when the Park Avenue Salon moved a few blocks away to Grand St., and extensive renovations ensued.

“The goal overall is to provide tools that help people connect with one another and have time created for themselves to find the grace in their lives,” Jackson says. “We’re all on hyperspeed. Nowadays, it’s hard to slow down. It’s hard to think about what you want and what’s filling your bucket.”

Her gifts for all ages are stocked thoughtfully from both wholesalers and local artisans. They range from smiley face socks to gratitude journals to candles, hourglasses, inspirational decals, conversation-starting games, kitchenware, unique greeting cards, and more.

Jackson says she’s had customers “come and say ‘I didn’t realize I needed this.’ Like they subconsciously are connecting with something, and they didn’t even realize they could. And opening that door for them has been very rewarding.”
