The longtime Mallek’s Service Station at the Dexter-Jackson fork has reopened as a self-service gas station and convenience store called Ann Arbor Party Center Station.

Ihsan “Tony” Karim bought the wedge-shaped property from the heirs of John Mendler, the kindly mechanic who ran the station from 1976 until his death in 2021. “He was a really great gentleman,” manager Mike Hakim says of Mendler. “He did a lot for the community, and we’d like to keep the same thing.”

After a gut rebuild, Karim moved his Ann Arbor Party Center from the small shopping strip behind Mallek’s and added “station” to its name. Fresh sandwiches, deli products, and coffee now complement its full line of beer, wine, liquor, sodas, energy drinks, and other neighborhood conveniences, including a Bitcoin machine.
