Investigates complaints of discrimination in the rental, sale, or financing of housing. Federal and state laws prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex (incl. sexual harassment), familial status (families with kids), disability, marital status and age. Additional ordinances in Washtenaw County include protection against discrimination based on “arrest record, gender expression, educational association, family responsibilities, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, height, HIV status, political beliefs, immigrant status, sexual orientation, source of income, veteran status, victim of domestic violence or stalking, or weight.” Fair-housing services (investigations, testing, advice, advocacy, conciliation, attorney referral, and community education), are free to county residents. info@fhcmichigan.org, fhcmichigan.org V
