A project two years in the making, Cherry Republic has nearly doubled its prime downtown location at S. Main and E. Liberty. They celebrated the expansion with a grand opening on October 25.

Their best-sellers remain dark chocolate–covered cherries and the original cherry salsa, but the glass-fronted former Anneke’s salon provides more space for product lines they’ve added over the years. There’s also a bar where customers can order a variety of cherry wines to enjoy on-site, while exploring the Main St. social district, or bottled to take home. Six samples are available for $9. They already “have soda on tap, and we also will have, soon coming, our wine slushies and soda slushies for the kids,” reports store manager Rita Dudek.

Cherry Republic, based in Glen Arbor in Leelanau County, has six locations, all in the Lower Peninsula. The Ann Arbor store, the only one in southeast Michigan, opened in 2011.
