The Maple Village shopping center on the city’s west side now hosts a new off-price retail chain to replace the defunct Stein Mart, which closed in 2020. Burlington Stores will mark its Ann Arbor reappearance—there was one in Arborland in the 1980s and 1990s—with a weekend-long grand opening beginning March 31.

The renovated interior space of more than 33,000 square feet will feature an ever-
changing variety of brand-name apparel (including shoes and accessories) for all ages, as well as baby gear and home décor.

Early arriving customers on the first Friday and Saturday can score a scratch-off prize revealing a dollar amount to deduct from their purchases. A giveaway of branded canvas tote bags awaits shoppers on Sunday, April 2. According to a corporate press release, a local high-needs school will be identified to receive a $5,000 donation for classroom materials in partnership with nonprofit AdoptAClassroom.org.

The store’s intended staffing level is about sixty-five, a mix of full-time and part-time roles.

New Jersey–based Burlington (which dropped the “Coat Factory” from its name back in 2009) remains bullish on bricks-and-mortar compared to e-commerce, and its six-month stock performance well exceeds the major market indices. Ann Arbor’s was one of four Burlington stores nationwide to open on the same day.
