We received 217 entries correctly identifying last month’s Fake Ad for Boundaries Books on page 50 of the July Observer. The ad contained the last name of the previous winner, Janine Shahinian, in the title of the book, After the Shah, and the words that followed, “in Ian.”
“I first read the ad considering it for our next book club selection!” wrote AnnMarie Jensen.
“After living in Ann Arbor for the past 13 years and grabbing the Observer every month to find the Fake Ad first in my household, I am finally organized enough to send in an email before the deadline!” wrote Cindy Stiles. “My family is part of the club–my husband’s last name is Kaldjian–and it’s always fun to find something in the news that is Armenian!”
And Dan Jarrell wrote: “The quality of this ad went beyond your usually high standards. It is exactly as I would expect a book to be advertised.”
Our winner was Ethan Lube, a name that immediately set the Fake Ad Czar’s mind racing to all the ways he could slip it into this month’s ad. Ethan is taking his gift certificate to Zingerman’s.
To enter this month’s contest, find the Fake Ad in the August issue and follow the instructions in the box at the bottom of the Back Page. The Fake Ad always contains the name of last month’s winner in some form.
