The Blue Apple convenience store (and Mobil gas station) has closed after seven years at Packard and Platt. You can still grab gas and snacks at the Exxon station across the way and a Citgo further down the road.
Soon you can grab something else there. The new owners of the Blue Apple building have submitted plans to the city for a medical marijuana dispensary. Another gas-station-to-dispensary transformation is already underway at the former BP gas station next to the Victory Inn on Washtenaw. And across Packard from the Blue Apple, a dispensary has set up shop in the former Packard Pharmacy.
Though an Ypsilanti dispensary was recently raided by the DEA, what the state now calls “provisioning centers” have been popping up all over the area. In the last year, Ann Arbor’s planning commission has approved twenty-four, and four more are under review. If all are approved, that will hit the twenty-eight-store cap set by city council.
