Elizabeth Schmuhl is a multidisciplinary artist and the author of Premonitions (Wayne State University Press) and Presto Agitato: A Dictionary of Modern Movement (Zoo Cake Press & Dancing Girl Press). Schmuhl has published several fine art books including Fishes of The Great Lakes (Paw Paw Press), which contains paintings with natural ink using water from the Great Lakes watershed. This poem, “Before Winter,” was inspired by a day walking in the woods of Ann Arbor.
