“I Spy the Aviation Fuel company sculpture west of the southeast area Bicentennial Park!” writes Kathryn Powell, referencing August’s clue. It’s “one of the many features that make this global headquarters campus look like a nice place to work.”

“The company is a global supplier of aviation fuel and services,” writes Barb Tester. Avfuel’s “headquarters is right here in Ann Arbor,” says David Karl, and it’s “considered a green aviation business” according to industry standards.

The logo of Avfuel Corporation at 47 W. Ellsworth is “an artistic combination of the letters A and V,” says Rudi Hauleitner. “It kind of reminds me of the impossible triangle,” writes Karl, “a variation of the Penrose Triangle … used quite a bit by the artist M.C. Escher.” And, it’s certainly memorable. “I have no idea why I know the logo on sight,” says Eric Sobocinski, “and knew where to look.”

“Fun fact: There is another, larger, version of this symbol on the back patio in the building,” writes our random drawing winner, Katie Slovan. “The landscaping in the back parking lot has the shape cut out of greenery so that planes flying over top of the building can spot it as they approach the runway to the Ann Arbor Airport nearby!”

Fifteen entrants correctly identified Avfuel on Ellsworth. As the Observer went to press, Slovan hadn’t yet decided where to enjoy her $25 gift certificate. To enter this month’s contest, use the image and clue below and send your answer to the address above.
