The Marketplace Changes beat includes periodic walks through Briarwood Mall, getting in steps while tracking stores’ comings and goings.
In August, signs promised openings for Hollister (a teen casual wear brand owned by Abercrombie & Fitch, which left the mall in 2021), J & S Jewelers, and a likely seasonal appearance of Spirit Halloween in the large former Forever 21 space. Ramen Ya appears just about ready to offer its Japanese noodle dishes from the central food court.

The most recent launch is a convenience store, Munchies, which might seem peculiarly placed near the middle of an enclosed shopping center. But it’s actually their third such location, following Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn and Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. Owner Yosef Ahmed explains that most of his customers are mall employees.
Munchies offers mostly single-serving snacks and drinks, but also jumper cables, earbuds, cigarettes, and a few grocery items. Most items lack price tags, but Ahmed says they’re “just like gas-station prices.”
Munchies, Briarwood Mall (Von Maur wing). Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
