Whitetail, Mary Baude’s design, home, and lifestyle shop on S. Main, closed in April. She’d launched her business in Dexter in 2016, and moved it to Chelsea in 2022; in March 2024, she announced her retirement on Instagram.

Chelsea Home, interior designer Kitty Golding’s boutique, is set to open by November 8 in Whitetail’s former space. Golding started her design business, Kitty & Company, in 2006, and about a year ago added a retail store to her office in the Sylvan Building on N. Main. When the space she’d “always loved” became available in the heart of Chelsea, she was the first person to talk to the landlord. The front half will be her retail showroom and the back will serve as her design office.

“We’ll open with Christmas decor,” says Golding, and the merchandise will be “highly evolving” thereafter. She says they’ll sell furniture, mirrors, rugs, barware and cookware, pillows and drapery, and artwork, among other items—“anything you need for your home we can source or share.” Different sections of the store will highlight the bath, kitchen, and the pantry, where they’ll sell coffees, teas, and chocolates.

Golding says she chose the store’s name because after living in Chelsea more than twenty years, “no matter where I go or travel, I always want to return to my home.”
