Frank Zhong’s Ypbor Yan, featuring a rather exotic menu centered around Sichuan cuisine, has moved a bit farther east on Washtenaw Ave. into a building long home to a Big Boy and, most recently, Crazy Crab. He also tweaked the name: it’s now Ypbor F.M.

Zhong’s ownership group purchased the former Emerald City restaurant in 2012 and crafted the ingenious name: it’s a partial anagram of Ypsi–Ann Arbor whose syllables also pair with real Chinese characters, making it the rare restaurant in town that actually tries to meld its Chinese name with its English name.

“F.M.” stands for “food museum,” and diners can peruse a modest collection of Chinese artifacts on display.
