Founded in the early 70s by singer-guitarist Ray Benson, this celebrated Austin-based western swing revivalist band has become a pivotal country music institution. They have released a number of acclaimed albums, including the 1997 CD Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, featuring guest vocals by everyone from Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard to Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks. Opener: The Shootouts, an Akron-based country and Western swing Americana quartet. New Depression describes their 2023 album, Stampede, as “a party from start to finish… songs that have the power to bring country purists and newbies alike together to swill beers on the same raucous dancefloor.” $52.
