University Symphony Orchestra: U-M Music School

Kenneth Kiesler conducts music students in a send-off concert ahead of the orchestra’s tour of South Africa and performance at Carnegie Hall. Program: Bernstein’s On the Waterfront Suite, selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, William Dawson’s thrilling & powerful masterpiece The Negro Folk Symphony, along with heartrending and joyful spirituals and inspiring South African nation–building songs. Features renowned bass & U-M voice professor Daniel Washington, Grammy-winning soprano Karen Slack, and acclaimed South African soprano Goitsemang Lehobye, a U-M grad.
