“Third Thursdays at the Library”: U-M Library

Monthly open house featuring rotating highlights from the library’s Special Collection Research Center, maps from the Clark Library, and items from other collections. Curators on hand to answer questions. Light refreshments. Today on the 1st fl.: “What Makes a Democracy? Exploring Elections and Electoral Systems in Europe and Africa.” Display of election ephemera, web archive content, and scholarship on democracy in countries ranging from Armenia to Zambia. Today on the 2nd fl.: “A Celebration of Celestial Maps Through the Ages.” Display of star maps dating to the late 17th-century, two antique celestial globes, and other objects. Today on the 6th fl.: “Victor Perera Papers: From Chaos to Cataloged.” Display of recently cataloged papers of this prolific Guatemalan-born writer, journalist, and political activist whose writing ranges from Guatemalan politics to the Loch Ness monster. 4–6 p.m., Hatcher Library, enter from the Diag.
