Symphony Band: U-M Music School

This music student ensemble is joined by the innovative Chicago-based contemporary music chamber sextet Eighth Blackbird in a performance of contemporary Vietnamese American composer Viet Cuong’s Vital Sines, a concerto that employs repetition of several musical sequences to create an overarching structure resembling a sine wave. The program concludes with a 90th birthday tribute to retired U-M bands director H. Robert Reynolds, who joins the band to conduct a set of music by Percy Grainger. Preceded at 7:15 p.m. by a brief talk. 8 p.m., Hill Auditorium. Free. (734) 764–0583.
