“Siddhartha”: U-M Chamber Choir

Eugene Rogers conducts this music student choir in contemporary American composer Christopher Theofanidis and poet Melissa Studdard’s new oratorio loosely based on Herman Hesse’s 1922 novel about the spiritual journey of the Buddha. In addition to choral music, the piece employs spoken poetry, field recordings, video projection, and choreography to create a magical-realist, gender-bending exploration of the depth of the human condition. With piano accompaniment by Scott VanOrnum. Preceded at 7:15 p.m. by a brief talk. 8 p.m., U-M Walgreen Drama Center Stamps Auditorium, 1226 Murfin, North Campus. Free. (734) 615–3204.
