“Seussical the Musical”: Young People’s Theater
Dec. 13–15. Michael Newberry directs local young actors in Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty’s Tony-winning musical adaptation of Dr. Seuss stories. When chaos erupts in the Jungle of Nool, it takes the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, and a gaggle of other characters to bring harmony back to the world. The engagingly eclectic score includes pop, gospel, blues, Latin, and R&B tunes. The original production was panned by critics, but the show has had a second life as a popular production in regional and school theaters. 7 p.m. (Fri. & Sat.), 1 p.m. (Sat.), & 2 p.m. (Sun), Power Center. Tickets $15 (kids, $10) in advance at mutotix.umich.edu & at the door. (734) 222-4006.
