“Seeking Mavis Beacon”: Cinetopia International Film Festival

Cinetopia International Film Festival. June 13—23. This Ann Arbor Summer Festival/Cinetopia collaboration features dozens of films—many of them Michigan premieres—screened over 10 days at the Michigan Theater (MI) and State Theatre (State). Includes narrative feature-length films and documentaries that recently premiered at international festivals such as Sundance and Berlin. Tickets $16 (Michigan Theater members, $13); 4-pack, $60 (Michigan Theater members, $45); festival passes, $125-$295 in advance at marquee-arts.org/cinetopia and at the door. The films are listed in order of first screening below. 

June 15 & 19 (State): “Seeking Mavis Beacon” (Jazmin Jones, 2024). Hybrid documentary that blends myth and memory to uncover the truth behind an unsung hero in Black history: software pioneer Mavis Beacon. 7 p.m. (Sat.) & 4:45 (Wed.).
