Orchestre de Paris: University Musical Society

27-year-old Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä makes his UMS debut leading the Orchestre, which was named by Classical Music/BBC Music Magazine among the top 20 orchestras in the world in 2023. The program is highlighted by a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring 19-year-old South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim, the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winner. Also, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Stravinsky’s complete Firebird Suite.  Preceded at 6:30 p.m. in the lower lobby by “The Society for Disobedient Listeners,” a talk by Chicago-based music writer and violist Doyle Armbrust. 7:30 p.m., Hill Auditorium.
