Apr. 15: “Of Calendars and Cinnabar: The When and What of Dreaming in Late Ming China.” Lawrence University history professor Brigid E. Vance discusses how dreams were understood in 17th-century China.
Apr. 22: “Nutritional Imperialism: How Science Turned Difference into Sickness in China.” University of Denver history professor Hilary Smith discusses how early 20th-century Chinese nutritionists blamed the nation’s political weakness on bad food choices.
