Imani Winds & Andy Akiho: University Musical Society
Performing both separately and together, Imani Winds, a veteran NYC-based wind quintet known for its adventurous programming, appears with five-time Grammy-nominated composer-percussionist Akiho. The program includes Akiho’s “BeLoud, BeLoved, BeLonging,” a new work inspired by the protests of immigrants at a Brooklyn detention center over unsanitary conditions and lack of heat. Also, Akiho’s Synesthesia Suite, Paquito D’Rivera’s Kites, and Jason Moran’s Cane, a work composed for Imani Winds that explores the history of the composer’s family in Louisiana. 4 p.m., Rackham Auditorium. $36–$58 (students $15–$20) in advance only at (734) 764–2538 and tickets.ums.org.
