“Gearheads”: InterACT Entertainment
Aug. 10 & 11. Joey Albright directs local actors, accompanied by a live pit orchestra, in the premiere performances of U-M grad David Nettleman’s original musical. Written in the style of the golden age musicals of the late 1950s, the plot involves a crew of auto mechanics who are left to run a repair shop while its owner and service manager are away. Preferring partying to work, they turn the break room into a de facto frat house. In the ensuing revelry, love is lost and found, the youngest mechanic has a coming-of-age experience, and the shop becomes a place where everyone belongs. Note: plot features mature content and blood; not recommended for young children. 7 p.m. (Sat. & Sun.) and 2 p.m. (Sun.), Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre. Tickets $20–$25 in advance at mutotix.umich.edu and at the door. (734) 763–8587.
