Dexter Summer Festival: Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce
Aug. 8 & 9. Formerly “Dexter Daze,” these festivities in downtown Dexter include food and craft vendors at three locations, a Dexter Area Historical Society raffle to benefit the ongoing restoration of Gordon Hall, and merchant sidewalk sales & yard sales around town. On both days, kids activities (in the Broad Street parking lot) include balloon animals, bounce houses, games, and kids-oriented live entertainment TBA. Today’s live music at the Monument Park gazebo: the local folk-rock duo of Dave Boutette and Kristi Davis, Dave & Kristi (noon), whose new CD, The Chickadees, ranked #11 on the national Folk DJ chart in June; the local classic, New Wave, and modern rock cover dance band The Extrusions (4 p.m.); and Ransom Jones (8 p.m.), a veteran local classic rock party band that plays 60s–80s covers. Also at Monument Park throughout the day: mini golf, and a social tent. On a new second stage for live music on Broad Street at Grand, performers include the local jazz and blues band 6 on 5 (2 p.m.) and the local classic rock band Ain’t Dead Yet (6 p.m.). The Broad Street location also features a climbing wall, dunk tank, and corn hole (with a tournament at 3 p.m.). 10 a.m.–8 p.m. (Fri.), 10 a.m.–8 p.m. (Sat.), downtown Dexter.
