Hien is no stranger to April’s theme, CROSSROADS. Born to refugee parents who fled the Vietnam War to San Jose, California, his life has followed a series of unexpected turns—from studying in Aachen, Germany, as an exchange student to earning his Master's in Healthcare Administration and working in healthcare before meeting his business partner at a healthcare consultancy in Michigan. Together, they created Chillpill, a blog exploring Buddhist, minimalist, and stoic philosophies—his first creative endeavor sparked during a time of profound questioning. In embracing these unexpected turns, he transformed what began as a side-hustle into his main pursuit—a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful paths are the ones we never planned to take.

Hien is the Chief Prophecy Fulfiller at Huck Finch, a design studio known for its bold, unapologetic websites and Grabbag Studio, where he designs websites for startups that are here to chew gum and kick ass.
