Branford Marsalis Chamber Project: University Musical Society

Three-time Grammy Award–winning jazz composer-saxophonist Marsalis focuses on modern and contemporary classical music tonight with this chamber trio that includes U-M saxophone professor Timothy McAllister and collaborative pianist Liz Ames. The program includes Liszt’s Die Lorelei, Clair de Lune, and 2 other works by Debussy, “First Light” from Sally Beamish’s Divertimenti for Two Soprano Saxophones and Piano, Kelly-Marie Murphy’s Unstoppable Fear Machine, and a new medley from Ennio Morricone’s score for the film Cinema Paradiso. Also, the world premiere of a UMS commission from U-M music professor Michael Daugherty, Kansas City Confidential. 7:30 p.m., Rackham Auditorium.
