“Bicentennial Thrill of the Mills”: Bicentennial Committees of Ann Arbor, Dexter, and Dixboro

Celebration of Ann Arbor, Dexter, and Dixboro’s 200-year birthdays via the history of local mills. 10 a.m.: At the Dexter Cider Mill, the longest continuously operating cider mill in Michigan, owner Nancy Steinhauer demonstrates apple pressing and hosts a cider-tasting. 1 p.m.: At the Dixboro United Methodist Church, Zingerman’s Bakehouse historian Lee Vedder and bread manager Hazim Tugun discuss 19th-century grain mills in Washtenaw County and lead a tasting of freshly milled, whole grain breads. 4 p.m.: At Parker Mill County Park, WCPARC naturalist Shawn Severance leads a tour and demonstrates the working of the only remaining 19th-century flour mill in Washtenaw County. 10 a.m., Dexter Cider Mill, 3685 Central St., Dexter; 1 p.m., Dixboro United Methodist Church, 5221 Church Rd., Dixboro (across Plymouth Rd. from the Dixboro General Store); 4 p.m., Parker Mill County Park, 4650 Geddes Rd., Ann Arbor Twp.
