“An Afternoon with Gershwin”: Dexter Community Band

Bill Gourley directs this 85-member volunteer ensemble in a program of music by American composer George Gershwin, including arrangements of songs from An American in Paris, excerpts from Porgy and Bess, “I Got Rhythm,” and “Strike up the Band,” along with excerpts from the Cuban Overture and Rhapsody in Blue. The band is joined by Depot Town Big Band swing band singer Fiona Linn to perform “But Not for Me” and a medley of Gershwin’s love songs. 3 p.m., Dexter Center for the Performing Arts, Dexter High School, 2200 N.
